Designed for your Mac

This is a real Mac app, not a web page in a window. It feels at home next to your other apps and follows the rules macOS expects. One download covers every modern Mac.

The app runs on macOS 13 Ventura and newer. The build is universal, so it runs natively on Apple Silicon and on Intel Macs with no extra steps. You sign in once and connect with a single click.

Your private key is made on your Mac and stays there. We only keep the matching public key. You can rotate your keys any time from your account dashboard.

Built the Mac way

Three things the macOS app does to fit your workflow.

Universal build

One download runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel. You do not pick a version. The app detects your chip and uses the right code on its own.

Keychain-backed sign in

Your sign-in token is stored in the macOS Keychain, the same secure place your Mac uses for passwords. You stay signed in, and the token is protected by your account login.

Menu bar control

Connect and disconnect right from the menu bar at the top of your screen. A quick glance shows whether you are protected, without opening the full window.

Get started in three steps

From download to a protected connection.

Open the disk image

Double-click the downloaded .dmg and drag vpn.now into your Applications folder.

Launch vpn.now and sign in with your account email and password.

Press connect

Click the power button. macOS will ask for permission once to set up the tunnel, then you are protected.

Prefer to set things up by hand? The manual setup guide covers the official Mac client too.

How macOS runs the tunnel

vpn.now uses modern ChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption. The first time you connect, macOS shows the standard authorization prompt to add the VPN configuration. You approve it once.

Release builds are signed and notarized by Apple, so you will not see a warning about an unidentified developer. If you are testing an unsigned build, macOS may block it the first time. Right-click the app and choose Open to run it, then it opens normally after that.

Want to know more about the encryption and how your keys are handled? Read about our VPN protocols, or see the VPN for macOS setup guide for a full walkthrough.

What is included

  • A fast encrypted tunnel built on modern ChaCha20-Poly1305, native to Apple Silicon and Intel.
  • One-click connect, location picker, and a clear status.
  • Your token is stored in the macOS Keychain; your private key never leaves your Mac.

Verify your download

Every official build ships with its SHA-256 checksum. Matching the hash of your file against the value below confirms you have the genuine, untampered build and not a repackaged copy from anywhere else.

vpn.now-macos.dmg SHA-256: 8a37d16c88dcd2e3cc80783e0a294497cd94f4e9d13b351e1b6f7849947d20a5

Check it with shasum -a 256 vpn.now-macos.dmg on macOS or Linux, or certutil -hashfile vpn.now-macos.dmg SHA256 on Windows.

macOS questions

macOS says the app is from an unidentified developer.

Release builds are signed and notarized by Apple so this warning does not appear. If you are testing an unsigned build, right-click the app and choose Open the first time.

Do I need to install anything else?

No. The signed release includes everything it needs to connect, so you can install the app and sign in.

Apple Silicon and Intel both supported?

Yes. The download is a universal build that runs natively on both.
